Todays question comes from Lionel Lei: Anybody have any tips, articles, videos, etc. on how to be a human metronome? I find that I struggle with songs that dont have distinctive downbeats, such as songs that only have a strong vocal component (almost like a cappella) or have a piano as the primary instrument. A couple of examples off the top of my head are Skylar Greys Love the Way You Lie: Part 2 and first 30 seconds of Missy Higgins Where I Stood. For songs like these, what exactly do you listen for? Also, if you get a song like this which you havent heard before, do you still count 1, 2, 3&4 in your heads or have some other way of staying on time thats less... mechanical? Oh, and if anyone has some favorite challenging songs, please share them so I can start practicing listening to it.
