Todays rant: I have recently seen a few posts on loud talkers being rude. Well, yes, some are just self absorbed jerks. However, some are not. I have dealt with hearing loss most of my life, as has my daughter. Many people are shocked when they find out that I wear hearing aides (I hate my present ones and rarely wear them). They are surprised because we dont sound Deaf. The irony of that is not lost on me. Modulating volume is very difficult when you cant tell how loud you are. It takes years to learn and a lot if concentration on your muscles. Sometimes a person is distracted or just really into their conversation. It hurts to realize that you have embarrassed the people around you. The flip side of this is one becomes so afraid that their excitement becomes volume that you start mumbling. It is frustrating to say the least. Hearing loss for many is invisible to others.
