Todays word count is at 21492. Heres the extra long excerpt I promised but didnt do last time (sorry!): He looked toward the living room and sighed before nodding. “Yeah, I think I might have something. Let’s get her fixed up and healed first. But just so you know, it may be longer than a week. You don’t want to try to deal with an infection out there on the road, believe me.” “What about the Bandits?” “What about them?” He asked in a way that seemed like they weren’t much of a threat to him. “They’re dangerous.” Tears nipped my eyes. He shrugged. “The entire world is dangerous. They are just people. And people can be disarmed easily.” “You haven’t seen what they can do.” “I’ve seen much more in my life than I hope you will ever see. I’m old. I’m experienced. I’ve survived this long without much problem. Who’s to say I can’t teach you a thing or two before you are on your way?” I sighed, relenting. “I can’t make any promises.” He nodded. “I’m not asking for promises, young one. Just take things a day at a time. That’s all I ask.” I took in my brother and the weight on his shoulders as he saw to Jesse. He was only thirteen—just a child—and he already had taken on too much. A long deep breath left my lungs through my nose. He needed a break. Jesse needed a break. And if I was honest with myself, I needed a break. The training would do us a lot of good and help us to get by. Returning my gaze to Jeb, I nodded. He smiled, hope gleaming in his eyes and it made me wonder about his story and why he was so eager to help us again. There was more than just the basic desire to help a few kids he saw walking along a highway near his house. “Go, get some rest. You probably haven’t had a decent night’s sleep in a long while.” I removed myself from the table, setting my bowl into the sink then stepped along the floor to the spot on the floor. My body was exhausted. There couldn’t have been much more than a few more hours left of the night before sunrise, but that didn’t stop me from lying down on the makeshift bed and instantly falling asleep.
