Today’s Tip: If your horse is stepping out of the turn or coming - TopicsExpress

Today’s Tip: If your horse is stepping out of the turn or coming in a little close at any point – review your video and take a good, close look at your own body position. Leaning to the inside and over-weighting the inside stirrup is very common. Your horse will tend to shift his own weight under yours, and this can even cause your horse to drift off pattern slightly. It’s ideal to be balanced in the saddle, but to break a habit of leaning, you may have to focus on stepping in the outside stirrup – which will also help your horse stay balanced and on track. Think about your individual horse’s tendencies in a run and what you can do to help him. If he’s heavy on the front end, sit up, focus up, and weight your own “hindquarters” more, if he gets delayed and bogged down leaving the barrel, lighten the load back there and encourage more forward momentum in your own body. For a horse that is already solid and consistent on the pattern, these subtle adjustments can really be the “icing on the cake” necessary to shave off that last ½ second!
