Today’s WORD of GOD for YOU ……………….. 7th Sept. Sunday ……………………………………………………. Matthew 18:19 JESUS says,If 2 of U agree on earth about anything U ask,it will be done for U by my FATHER in heaven.- Today is the 23rd Sunday of the Year & 4th day Novena to Harigaon Mat Mauli : Main Preacher: Rev. Fr. Peter D’Souza, Procurator of CDN. Today’s Saint –Blessed Frederic Antonic Ozanam – Founder (1813-1853). - Born on 23 April 1813 in Milan, then a French city, Frederic Antoine Ozanam was the 2nd of the 3 survicing children – 13 died in infancy – born to Jean Antonio & marie Nantas Ozanam. Early in life, he imbibed from his parents the humane touch of concern for the poor & the needy. His father was a medical practitioner whose loving devotion to his patients, most of whom were very poor, was phenomenal; his mother was very active as President of the Ladies’ Association of Charity in Lyons. - He worked with St. Vincent de Paul, which brought him in close contact with the derelicts of society and eventually inspired him so found the first Conference of Charity in May 1833 with the avowed objective of visiting and helping the poor both materially and spiritually. However, so enamored was he of the saint’s life and work that he placed his new, fledgling apostolate under his protection and patronage, naming it the “Society of Saint Vincent de Paul” (SVP) has nearly 50,000 conferences spread across the 5 continents ! - Though always inclined towards literature, in 1831, in deference to his father’s wishes Frederic took up the study of “law” at the Sorbonne, a subject at which he excelled, leading him into a profession that saw him rise to great heights – in 1839, he was appointed to the Chair of Commercial Law at the University of Lyons & in 1840, to the Chair for Foreign Literature at the same university. - A Christian to the core, this lover and servant of the poor, by now failing in health, was forced to travel to Italy in 1852, along with his wife and daughter, in search of a cure. However, which on his way back home, he breathed his last at Masrseilles on the feast of the Nativity of Our Blessed Mother in 1853, his last words being: “My God, My God, have mercy on me !” The Lord, of course, not only heeded his plea but also had him raised to the honours of the Altar at the hands of Pope John Paul II during the World Youth Day celebrations in Paris in the year 1997. - “Man becomes great exactly in the degree in which he works for the welfare of his fellowmen” – Mahatma Gandhi.
