Today’s guest quote is by Anne Lamott, from Help Thanks Wow “Someone has a baby, or pulls the trigger, or snatches the money, or picks up the drink or doesnt, or makes it to the shore, and everything sorts itself out, or falls apart, and through it we pray, Help, help, help. Thank you. Wow. Amen. . . . And then two hours or two days later, Help. We are saved by memories of love and beauty—maybe theres more of that to come, if we keep on keeping on. Or we are haunted by our failures and mortality, and beg that we not end up in such darkness again, so we say, Amen. Life is motion, change, stagnation, bloom; nothing ever seems to happen, or awful stuff happens, or beautiful stuff happens, and we say, Amen. Just when we think weve gotten things all lined up nicely, a rogue wave washes it all away, or deposits onto the shore a bright orange queen conch that weve been looking for all our lives, or a big chunk of fossilized whale bone, honeycombed with minuscule cells of color, and we say, Wow. Were blown away, for a time, and then we usually slip back into regular old life. And so it is.”
