Todd Starnes at Fox News reports that the Obama Administration “strongly objected” to a proposed amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act. It’s called the Religious Liberty Amendment. It would protect the religious rights of soldiers, including evangelical Christian who claim they’ve been coming under rising attacks by the military structure in recent days, who are trying to suppress any expressions of religious beliefs, even by chaplains. For example, an officer was ordered to remove the Bible from his desk because it might appear he was endorsing a religion. And a video by a chaplain was censored because he said the word “God,” which might offend Muslims or atheists. The amendment by Louisiana Rep. John Fleming would have “required the Armed Forces to accommodate ‘actions and speech’ reflecting the conscience, moral, principles or religious beliefs of the member.” But the Obama Administration claimed that would have a “significant adverse effect on good order, discipline, morale, and mission accomplishment.” Personally, I’d just like to know why an atheist would be watching a video by a chaplain in the first place. Was he looking for loopholes? For more of the Huckabee Report visit MikeHuckabee.
