Toledo, OH 7/2 to 7/3 2014 - MUDHENS Thank you to Andi Roman, Communications Director for the warm welcome. She even made sure that their TV station had John interviewed right there in their in-house TV studio! Club Level houses 32 suites, some with connecting doors allowing for combined parties, all with stadium seating overlooking this gorgeous park. There is a restaurant on this level, as well as standard concourse fare. There are even three old, old, old baseball pin ball machines here. Historical pictures and memorabilia line the walls, and we were fortunate to meet (and have lunch with) the Team Historian. Great stories – for the book…. Outside you will find a walk around park with picnic tables everywhere, and 4 huge party rental areas. Most notable of the seating is “The Roost”, a wedge of seating up 3 stories hanging between buildings. “Best seats in the House” are two leather recliners on the concourse behind home plate and are provided to a lucky fan each game. There are two fabulous sculptures, one inside the park and one outside. The one inside is 3 boys trying to catch a foul ball, complete with one boys cap falling off. Outside is a “Hole in the Wall Gang”, the old style fence actually sculpted. Nice touches. This park is, once again, all about the fan experience. First of all, it is one of those parks with fencing that allows for viewing from outside the park. There is a bar next door with windows overlooking the field. We were there on a Wednesday and there were two live camels celebrating Hump Day. There is an open air bar under The Roost, a small Kid Zone , plenty of concessions on the open air concourse and on field games. While we were here, we saw 4 Mascots – Muddy and Muddonna, both Mudhens, as well as Cat Trick and Spike the Walleye. On field games included Catch It In Your Pants, Dance Off, and a Chicken Race. Up in the Club Level on one of our days was Dueling Pianos with two great players entertaining the crowd. Cat Trick dropped in to play a bit too….well, to at least sit at one of the pianos and pretend he was playing. This was quite fun. There were plenty of give aways, and kid participation for ceremonial first pitches (all birthday kids, 10 one day), some local Little League Teams standing on the 3rd base line for the Anthem and a Kids Cam showing plenty of silly fans on the two huge video boards. One of the oddities, the grounds crew comes out every other inning to drag the field and they actually change out the bases each time. All in all, we had a great time. This park sits downtown and the surrounding area is just as interesting as the park! As we head off to Vermillion, OH to see the Lake Erie Crushers, we are still impressed that we are so privileged to live a life that goes Ballpark2Ballpark. I hope you continue to follow us as we gather the information that looks to be the makings of a great book!
