Tollgate Community Gardens Our mission is to support and facilitate the development of a School-based community garden for residents of the Tollgate Community. We will work closely with the Vangaurd Classical School and Mrachek Middle school who has given us permission to develop a portion of the school grounds into a co-op garden we can all learn and benefit from. We will encourage youth and seniors from a variety of backgrounds to work together to acheive a healthy, sustainable community garden. The school will benefit from the on-site garden with hands on learning in any applicaple class discussions and assignments. For the community, members will be able to rent plots which they will help maintain and a portion of their produce must be donated back to the school or others in leu of plot rental fees. It will also provide a location for community weekend gatherings such as Yoga, mindfulness and of course gardening. The garden will promote self-reliance, physical activity, social interaction and contribute to the health and well being of the community. The center will create a space for community gatherings and ceremonies that will serve as a learning environment for traditional foods, herbs and medicines, and urban agriculture. In addition, the center plans to incorporate a youth garden club, provide sustainability teachings through a native plant demonstration rain garden, and initiate gardening and agricultural conversations through events and listening sessions. ..
