Tommy and I are back on the road, after spending some time in - TopicsExpress

Tommy and I are back on the road, after spending some time in Jersey for Christmas. We’ve enjoyed some warm, sun-splashed days in St. Augustine, Florida. The Rambler is parked for the week at North Beach Campground in Vilano Beach, located directly across from the beach on highway A1A. If you are in the area and are looking for a nice RV Park, I think you will enjoy this one. As newbies to the RVing world, we expected to make reservations at state parks throughout Florida a couple months in advance—not! We quickly found out that state parks, and RV resorts, fill up real fast and that reservations for these campgrounds have to be made a year in advance. If you’re reading this and even think you want to spend some time in Southern Florida, make those reservations now; you can always cancel if need be. North Beach offers large, clean lots with sewer, water, 50 amp hookups, a pool, a place to hang out and play games, a grocery store, and a laundry room. The usual amenities one would expect in an RV resort. What you don’t normally expect are lush, moss-covered oaks and palmettos throughout the park, creating nice little coves for the rig. I call them the Mangrove Coves. Really cool, the whole tropical feel of this park, and the fact that it sits sandwiched between the North River and the Atlantic Ocean. You will find North Beach Campground a bit weathered. This is not so unusual, as salt air permeates the campground all day long. I would say this place is clean, but a little tired. I don’t mind at all. I love the fact that the owners did not pave the sites; the natural feel of the sand and the Mangrove atmosphere make the place authentic. Did I mention that the campground also sits between two restaurants? Enjoy an Oceanside meal at the Reef or stroll down to the river for some tasty ribs at Aunt Kate’s restaurant. Head out for dinner early, make your way to the river pier for sunset, and take in the buzz of families and friends laughing, fishing, and enjoying the day! Let’s not forget the pelicans. They’re hanging around too, hoping for a taste of the catch of the day from a sympathetic fisherman. By far, one of the coolest RV parks we’ve parked our rig. Till next time, Ciao!
