Tomorrow December 3 from 8-10 pm Lois Olney, Anugraha and the All Starrs will be performing At Clancys Fish Pub in Fremantle. (Starrs is spelt with a double R in memory of Lois and my great mate David Ngoombujarra Starr RIP who starred in the Australia movie and many others. Davy loved FTI and was a regular feature at our old Freo premises.) Lois is the subject of one of FTIs Indigenous Community Stories projects. In addition to being an amazing Jazz singer, artist and actress, and a fantastic cook, Lois has a heritage that encompasses nearly all issues common to this countrys First Peoples. Despite this, and her disability (an acute case of Lymphoedema in her lower body), Lois hardly ever stops smiling and helping others. The night is being filmed by students from Central TAFE as part of a collaborative doco on Lois and for a CD/DVD. This collaboration is part of ANTaR WAs Youth Media initiative, which is mainly focused on First Nations youth. So far collaborators include Central TAFE, Ngarda Media (Roebourne), WEST TV and ANTaR WA. ANTaR WA have supervised filming about Lois by Aboriginal people ranging from their low teens to 27, often people with no formal media training at all. This continues the long standing practice Lois and I have of filming with young Aboriginals, sometimes as young as 4. Lois is also an ANTaR WA committee member and our main source of cultural protocol advice. We hope you can come along and that you will fwd this email to your networks. loisolney/
