Tomorrow I will say my final farewell to my handsome hound, Stevie. My heart is breaking as I write this, as his loss comes so soon after my other greyhound, Mina. Stevie raced as Robs Diamond and has been a complete gentleman from the day he came to live with us. He learned to live with our cats, say please for his food and has been the most gentle and loving of greyhounds. Unfortunately, his health is failing in dramatic fashion. He has lost around 5kg in 10 days and has a lump on his liver (vet suspects liver cancer). He is very weak and I have decided to let him go with love and dignity. What is even more poignant is that Ava (our greyhound puppy) is positively blooming as Stevie deteriorates before our eyes. A bittersweet reminder of the joy and sorrow that sharing your home and heart with these noble hounds brings.
