Tomorrow, January 6, 2015, at noon, the United States Senate will gavel in for the 114th Congress. Newly-elected Senators and re-elected Senators will be sworn in by the Vice President in a ceremony. The history of the taking of the oath of office goes back to the beginning of the Congress. The Office of the Secretary of the Senate has posted a brief history and overview of tomorrow’s swearing in on senate.gov. You can watch the swearing in ceremony on senate.gov/floor. Tomorrow is not just a big day for the elected Senators, it is also important for the new Senate officers. Frank J. Larkin will be sworn in as the 40th Senate Sergeant at Arms and Jim Morhard as the Deputy Sergeant at Arms.
