Tomorrow is Mondays Fast with Shiva’s Spirituality! Round 2 – Week 5 (You can start Your own count!) As we all know, Monday is the day of Lord Shiva. It is a very auspicious day of the week for fasting and doing a little bit extra for Lord Shiva. Not eating and not cooking during the day gives you extra free time for your spiritual practice (reading, listening, reciting mantras etc.). You can read the stories related to the origin of the tradition online, for example here: premastrologer/pages/somvar.php Also, Mondays astrologically known as Moon Days (Lundi in French). So, fasting on Mondays will improve the influence of the Moon in your horoscope. Moon represents our mind, our thoughts and emotions. It’s worth having our mind and emotions under control. Also, we can learn controlling our senses. In this case it is a control of the tongue (sense of taste). Plus, all the material benefits that come with it (burn toxins, lose weight etc.). Trust me you will feel better mentally and physically after few weeks of fasting on Mondays; Pick a type of fast that suits you and the one you will be able to handle. Most sources would agree that grains and beans should be avoided on this day. We will not even mention the “M” word (meat). Most people would only eat fruits and dairy products on this day. Some (like myself) only drinking water – no food at all. Some having a dry fast, no food or drink all day. Also, different sources give different information regarding when to start and when to stop fasting. Some say you should eat dinner on Sunday and then eat next time dinner on Monday. Some sources say that no food all day on Monday. Some give the precise times based on astronomical calculations. It’s all up to you! I, personally, eat on Sunday evening, and my next meal is Tuesday morning. But you can choose your own schedule. As long as it is outside your “comfort zone”. Because the real success in our life is always outside of our comfort zone! Om Namah Shivaya! _/\_
