Tomorrow is Veterans Day and we should all be thankful for those - TopicsExpress

Tomorrow is Veterans Day and we should all be thankful for those that have served and their families. Because if it wasnt for them we would not have the freedoms that we have. Here is a poem I found on the net that I thought was appropriate for the day. Shadow Soldiers by Aztlanquill One cold, somber day so long ago, way back in 44 Those Normandy beaches laying there side by side, Machine guns a-blazing, bullets striking bone and flesh Now only shadow figures lie as ocean waves there splash, When ten thousand soldiers up the bunkers once would dash They rushed those sandy beaches now quiet and serene On that day of June, 6 in 1944, in Operation Overlord So much death occurred there, it was so surreal a dream As D-Day came and those allied forces ran on forward. Bodies fell in the cold waters that ran red in their blood The steel beams of the battlements slung in barbed wire Those sandy beaches resembled shades of crimson mud As they trekked though that hellish muck and the mire. So many lives were lost that day on those bloody beaches, My father was one of them who those beaches stormed, Now where they lay so long ago, now calm wave reaches I can still see those dark shadows (once real bodies) formed. So on this Veterans Day we remember those who survived And we carved those myriad of names on a wall of all that died. So when you place flowers on their dusty granite cross or grave Thank each one for your freedom and for the lives each gave. - See more at: allpoetry/poem/11107657-Shadow-Soldiers--by-Aztlanquill#sthash.vTOeZZMP.dpu THANK YOU TO THE FAMILIES AND ALL WHO HAVE SERVED OR ARE GOING TO SERVE!!!
