Tomorrow is the big day. I would like to take this time to send a heartfelt thank you to all the people who have offered their help and encouragement not only throughout the campaign, but the last three years as well . It has been an honour to serve you. To Mayor Susan, my fellow Councillors and to staff, it has been a pleasure working with and learning from you and I hope to carry that experience with me through the next four years. To Ken McVicar & Laverne Asselstine, thank you for your years of community service and best of luck in your future endeavors. I have learned a lot about our community, how it works and the passion of the legions of volunteers and staff who make it a great place live, work & play. We have opportunities here that other communities can only dream about. That being realised, we have to be stewards in the management of these opportunities thus, my goal is to make sure that the growth matches prosperity with sustainability. Currently there are fifty or so projects on the go with many more on the horizon. That is a lot of work but that is what comes with an evolving community. Not only am I looking forward to the challenges of seeing these current initiatives through, I want to have a responsible hand in future decisions that shape our town. Urgent Care is closer than it ever has been. Downtown revitalization is now a priority and should move along, with the Lakeshore redevelopment all but completed. Completion of the Multiplex project will help as well, with this cause. Annexation of future commercial and light industrial land to the east is essential, but we have to maximize that potential with a strong plan to invite business to our community. This is important as it will close the gap in the nonresidential / residential tax ratio. Other important issues to be addressed are investing and management of social and senior issues. Affordable housing both for seniors and the public for the people in our service industry. Further investment in our youth not only in facilities but programs as well. All this and more is what makes a community sustainable. When we moved here in 1974 there were 1600 people. A lot of change has taken place. A LOT of change. Has it all been done perfectly? No, nothing is perfect. Has it been done right?, Probably not, all of the time, but its still a pretty darn good place to be!! To my fellow Candidates, Good Luck! To the citizens of this great town see you at the Community Center between 10 am AND 8 pm TOMORROW.
