Tomorrow marks a year since I left my full time employment to be a stay at home mum (SAHM). It also marks one full year (minus few days more with ex nanny) of fully direct latching my now 24m22d. For this whole year, I am happy to say I did not have to wake up at wee hours to pump to maintain supply if I were to feed from bottle (though I still have to wake up to nurse her - more of pulling up my shirt & bra, plus shifting sides). Yes, good bye to my pump that has now been stored (I also managed to loan my pump charger to my breastfeeding friend). One of my daunting roles as a SAHM is to bring her out - either grocery shopping or her playtime/playdate. And bringing her out alone means I have to keep her occupied with many things while keeping a watchful eyes. In one outing that usually lasts less than 2 hours, I have to prepare her extra clothes, diaper, wet tissue, water, toy and food (and she needs few snacks as she likes choices). In such situation, I am thankful that I am still breastfeeding her - in the sense I need not have to bring bottles, water warmer & milk powder, and if we ever forget to bring her water, I could just breastfeed her. What I need is just the carrier. And maybe a corner of the shopping aisle to direct latch her (if shes too distracted). There are pros and cons to this decision to be a SAHM. But I certainly didnt regret it as beside getting to spend time with my girl on her precious years, I could breastfeed her without worries. Happy breastfeeding mummies!
