Tomorrow marks the 13th anniversary of the death of surfing - TopicsExpress

Tomorrow marks the 13th anniversary of the death of surfing legend, Miki Dora. A couple of years before Miki learned of his illness his friend, Steven Taussig, happened to mention to Miki that it might be a good idea to acquire the MikiDora.Com web address to protect it from being exploited for commercial gain. Miki thought about it for a moment and asked Steven to make the arrangements ASAP. Since then, Steven set up 10th Life Of Da Cat - a State of Hawaii Non Profit in order to transform MikiDora.Com into a permanent online record of his friends life, times and contribution to surfings rich heritage. There have already been many articles and three excellent biographies documenting Mikis life. But there is still a rich treasure trove of film, video, photos, letters, emails, faxes, personal reminiscences and mementos in public and private collections. Only something as flexible and accessible as a website can bring it all together in one place. Thats what the 10th Life Of Da Cat is all about. Tomorrow the 10th Life Of Da Cat is launching a crowd funding campaign on GoFundMe.Com to raise the funds well need to digitalize all of the materials we already have, plus all those promised to the project by Mikis friends and allies around the world. The sum were hoping to raise is $30,000. This is an immense task and only the beginning. Next well be working with a web designer to present all of this information and historical material in a website that is easy to navigate and enjoy (for you) and easy to keep updated (for us). With your help and support we can do it. WHO ARE WE? The 10th Life of Da Cat is a legal entity. But it has a very human face. Everyone involved knew Miki and were trusted by him. The board of directors are Steven, surfing historian and journalist, Bob Feigel, four times World Surfing Champion, author and businessman, Nat Young, Mikis former lawyer and doubles tennis partner, Bob Simpson and respected surfing journalist, author and former Surfer Magazine editor, Drew Kampion. We all have just one motive for being part of this project. And thats to see it succeed.
