Tomorrow night at 8pm! Directors note to fellow improv nerds: The seed for this format was planted by a conversation with Indigo Shift after their performance at Improvaganza Honolulu. Originally titled After the Rapture, the first idea was to have a global event where 90% of the worlds population dropped dead and then arose again a week later. But corpses animating in a dystopian world is awesome, it also brings to mind zombies first and foremost. Which aint what we wanted to do. The final idea evolved further in discussion with all of Interrobang and rehearsal of the show. Ive been intrigued by the idea of not doing an overt get for the suggestion from the audience. And I love the idea of explicitly embracing everything as a suggestion. This isnt TJ & Dave--who dont solicit a suggestion from the audience, but rather take a moment to look at one another to find the beginning of their show--but it does owe a debt to them. Other recognizable influences are Jimmy Carranes The Art of Slow Comedy, Marz Timmss Bigger Than the Stage, Stan Wellss Godot exercise, Bogart and Landaus Viewpoints, and especially Del Closes Truth in Comedy--finding the truth when theres nothing else is all that matters. This is a difficult format to market in written form, but when Ive talked face-to-face with fellow improvisers, their eyes light up. And while I believe that non-improvisers will enjoy this show, I believe that improvisers in particular will love it (and hopefully take ideas from it, much as I did from Indigo Shift a few months ago in Hawaii). Thanks for reading this, and I hope to see you at the show.
