Tomorrow will be a week since Jack has come home. Its taken some time for him to get his bearings. No wonder. The nurse today at clinic said that research shows that for every day you are in the hospital it takes 2-3 days of recovery at home. Jack was in the hospital 25 days for transplant and then this stint for 30 days. In many ways it feels like we are starting over. The fact that he had PT and OT and speech therapies 5 days a week in the hospital will help this transition go faster. Already yesterday he moved from having a difficult morning and walking just to the end of the block to the afternoon where he walked around the entire block and was much more positive in his outlook. His counts looked good and blood pressure holding steady as well. The challenge today was the 7:30 a.m. appointment time (he hates getting moving in the morning, especially that early) and we had to contend with snow and bitter cold (15 degrees). For someone in his frail condition this was a huge undertaking. The traffic was unbelievable and roads icy. Yet, he never complained and 3 hours later we are back home and hes resting. We are grateful for his progress as well as his sister Barbis good care of him last week while I was out of town. The kindness of family, friends and strangers has been and continues to be a blessing.
