Tonight I heard something that broke my heart. Im watching Beyond Scared Straight. It was apparent that one of the young men wasnt deeply affected by his experience. Hes 15 years old. When they showed the follow up segment he admitted that he wasnt. Subsequently, he had gotten into trouble behind a stolen cell phone and was scheduled to see a judge. During his follow up interview he stated, there aint no trying to be good. Its just something in my blood. Aint nobody in my family good. Even as I write this post, my eyes nearly tear up. This fella sees failure before hes even had a chance to really try because of his environments and examples (or lack thereof). We must begin to realize that there is more to each one of us than meets the eye; stop looking at the wound and seek the cause. Thus we will stop trying to use band aids and instead treat the condition. Lord, break the generational curses. In Jesus name. Amen.
