Tonight I watched the Boston F.D. deliver a firefighters wedding ring to his widow. It took me two hours before I could breathe again. You see ALL firefighters and ALL law enforcement wives grieve tonight with Boston. I have sat with my husband while he recounted searching and finding the badge of a deputy killed in a accident caused by a drunk driver. The badge was wedged so far into the ground I believe it was clearly only God that directed Mark Tally to find that badge. Deputy Colliers widow now has that badge. When people make stupid comments about how cops are jerks and fire fighters are arrogant or they have anger issues or youre not feeling understood for whatever reason. Im the wife of a cop. You have NO idea what my husband deals with. Im sorry if you dont like how he responds to your little emotional episode. I have sat and listened with my husband as he grieves all over again recounting what it feels like to have the life of two beautiful girls die at the scene of a car accident and then have to tell their parents they looked peaceful when in fact one of them literally died as he checked for a pulse or explaining to an attorney what stress is by going back to your first day out as a cop - having to grab an infant from their mothers arms and race to the hospital only to have that child die in your arms and then pretend like life is A-OK - you dont know what stress is. My husband will never be ok. No fire fighter will ever be ok. So tonight, we pray for the wives, families and the Boston F.D. that they will heal to the extent they can - and that maybe for one moment - the rest of the world willl understand - sometimes its never going to be alright.
