Tonight, I’d like to announce the launch of my label, Holy Roman. For years, I’ve collected little shards of advice from Gary Rivera at Queue, Robert Curcio at Mush Records, Steve Aoki at Dim Mak, Alessandro Adriani at Mannequin and the brilliant Jim Henderson and Karen Pearson at Amoeba Hollywood. They’ve all been generous friends or mentors (and at times, bosses) who have handled my projects with patience and care. Hopefully, I’ll be able to continue the thread. Our first release is “The glamour” by B L K L N. We met either on Telegraph Ave. in Berkeley around 2001 or at his rehearsal studio in 2005. He’s always impeccably dressed and is kind of a legend for having this savant-like knowledge of rare new wave and post-punk records. He’s every bit the gentleman but the city of Oakland and its troubled history runs through his music. “The glamour” is a fitting intro to his beautiful madness.
