Tonight Rod and I have been scrolling through Facebook. We were looking at everyones pictures and seeing where they are and what they are doing. Rick and Jill who are back in Chicago. Rocky and Michelle who are spending time in the hospital. I know there are others who are going through a difficult time with cancer. It brings back many memories. I remember going to Barnes Jewish hospital in STL and smelling the smell of 3200. ( the cancer floor). I remember waking all hours through the night and watching the clock to see how much longer until I would see Rod or my mom bringing me a cinnamon crunch bagel from St Louis bread company across the street. I remember watching Rod hunt down his favorite red chair to have in our room. He would wipe that sucker down from top to bottom as soon as he claimed it. Then he would quickly remove the clock from the wall so we didnt have to watch the time tick so slow. I remember being at Barnes and how mom and I couldnt wait until Saturdays so we could claim the sitting area outside. Weekends were much quieter. We could talk, meet other patients and meet their families. So many memories come back when you watch your friends go through similar situations. You may not feel like having company or talking on the phone at moments but being able to pick up your FB and seeing all the comments, support and love from back home gave us something that we really needed. We were connected. Connection to family and friends. So to those of you who are lying in beds, sitting in a chair, eating in the cafeteria....stay connected. Embrace the love/support from all of us who are thinking and praying for your strength and wellness. Its been over 3 years for us. What we have learned about ourselves and others has been a true blessing. Cancer is something that hits the whole family. Each person has their own story. Seek out the positive, reject the negative.
