Tonight at 6PM, City Hall Council Chambers... Hearing Examiner to determine whether to grant a conditional use permit recommended by the city staff, which impacts two kinds of critical areas, including an eagles nest. Here is the really disheartening part.... the developer has not yet submitted, nor has the city approved a critical area plan... in other words, the city wants the HE to approve the conditional use permit without knowing how the applicant intends to mitigate the impacts and harm to the critical areas. The staff states that these are separate processes, but this type of piece meal planning is exploiting a loophole in the city code, and is an attempt to avoid the public process, review and protection that should be afforded to our city critical areas. This is a black mark against the administrations environmental policy.
