Tonight at 6pm here at the MAC Jarrett Walker Bio Growing up in Portland, Oregon in the 70’s, Jarrett Walker lived through the changing dynamics of a city going from a vehicle based system to a land based system. Neighborhoods were saved, parks were re-established, and a light rail system was developed. This gave him a certain perspective to live by and utilize within his career. Jarrett Walker went to Pomona College is Claremont California to receive his BA, and then later received a Ph.D in Theatre Arts and Humanities at Stanford University. Now running his own firm, Jarrett Walker + Associates, he has worked without a car in San Francisco, Vancouver, Portland, Sydney, Paris, Oxford, and Claremont. He is also familiar to Australia and New Zealand while working for McCormick Rankin Cagney which is a firm that does transit planning and management in those areas. His work goal is to take a city and make it as compatible as possible to both personal transit and public transit. He takes technical questions and value questions and redefines them for the public’s clarity and curiosity. Public opinion, nature and agriculture always play a role in the structuring of transit for Walker as well, making the system conceptually balanced and green conscious.
