Tonight, communities across the nation will celebrate National Night Out. 31 years ago, the first National Night Out asked residents to turn on their porch lights and spend time in front of their homes, sending a united message with their neighbors against crime. Over the years, National Night Out has grown to be a valued community event with block parties, safety fairs, and marches, but at its core the message has remained the same—fostering partnerships between our community and police that promote safe neighborhoods. In my district, communities in Lynwood, South Gate, San Pedro and Wilmington are hosting events this evening that are free and open to the public. Carson will hold their ceremony tomorrow, August 6. I hope you and your neighbors will come out for a night of neighborhood unity and community fun!
