Tonight, on DVR Catch-Up, a Peter OToole double feature! First up, his first motion picture starring role, in David Leans Oscar-winning epic, Lawrence of Arabia (1962), also starring Sir Alex Guinness, Anthiny Quinn, and Omar Sharif. Based on the true story of British Intelligence officer T.E. Lawrences exploits in the Middle East during World War I, this quintessential epic motion picture took home seven Academy Awards, including Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Director (David Lean), and Best Picture. It was also the first of eight Academy Award nominations Peter OToole would receive in his career. The second film tonight is the now-classic comedy My Favorite Year (1982), also starring Mark-Linn Baker and Jessica Harper. This whimsical movie, about an aging (and hard-drinking) Hollywood swashbuckler appearing on a live TV comedy sketch show, garnered Mr. OTooles seventh Oscar nomination.
