Tonight the Carrboro Town Board of Aldermen unanimously adopted a resolution naming November 6 (the day of our Hickory Tavern fundraiser) Community Radio Day in Carrboro. Please spread the news. Whereas, WCOM is a non-profit, all volunteer community radio station located in Carrboro and serving southern Orange County, and. Whereas, WCOM, the first station in the southeast to go on air under the FCC’s Low Power program, is celebrating its tenth anniversary of serving the community, and. Whereas, from its rented studio space in The ArtsCenter in downtown Carrboro, WCOM reaches listeners around the globe through its Internet stream on wcomfm.org, and Whereas, WCOM provides a radio home for dozens of volunteer hosts creating original programming including outstanding talk and current affairs shows and music programs spanning many genres, and Whereas, WCOM has trained and given a first broadcast opportunity to countless area residents, and Whereas, WCOM is celebrating its 10th Anniversary with a fundraising event at the Hickory Tavern in Carrboro on Thursday, November 6, 2014. Therefore, The Carrboro Town Board of Aldermen adopt this resolution recognizing WCOM’s decade of service to Carrboro and hereby proclaim Thursday, November 6, 2014 Community Radio Day in the Town of Carrboro.
