Tonight, unfortunately, I have some bad news to relate. Over - TopicsExpress

Tonight, unfortunately, I have some bad news to relate. Over the summer, our friend Andrew Dyer went to the hospital for a mark on his chest. Doctors removed it for testing and it came back positive for melanoma. They began treatment, and as we saw Andrew on outings in the months after, it seemed to be under control. Later in September, my parents were at church and heard that there were prayers asked for Andrew Dyer. Since Andy is not one to overly share, I asked him in a text. Andy explained that the situation was bad. The cancer had spread to his brain, liver, and bones; the doctors were not hopeful that radiation would help. He said he had a little stomach pains and got hot easily, but that if you just flip him in a chair he would feel better. Later that month, Bryan Meeker and I scheduled with him to hang out and play some games, anything to help him feel better. When we got to his house we were stunned at how thin he was. He was slow moving, but he was still the goofy Andy we knew. We ordered a pizza, played some games, and watched Monsters University, leaving early so he could get his rest. Since then, I tried to invite him out, but respectfully, I didnt push it because I knew he needed his rest. This past holiday, we tried getting a hold of him since a bunch of us were in town, but we did not receive a response. Those who know Andy know this is not completely out of the ordinary. The other day Steve Martin gave me a call and said that the reason Andy hasnt been in contact with us is that he has been in the hospital. It took Steve calling the Dyers house phone repeatedly before his Dad answered and explained what happened - Apparently, on the Monday after Christmas, Andy suffered some complications due to calcium deposits in his brain - I believe Steve mentioned something about Andy going into a coma. The worst part of the whole thing is that they say he only has about 2 months to live. Apparently the Monday after Christmas Andy suffered some complications due to calcium deposits in his brain. Steve, Emma Olsen and I went to visit him since Andys dad said he was having a good day. We didnt immediately tell everyone because we didnt know what Andys family wanted to do. We separately drove up to the hospital and went to his room in the ICU. His dad was there with some of his cousins. Andy was asleep at the time. His face looked more drawn and his eyes are a bit more sunken. They are still bright though. His voice is weaker, even though he still makes jokes. We were able to give him his Christmas gifts, but he needed help opening them. When a nurse was in to check on him she asked if he was in any pain and he said no. Overall he said he was just tired. And he looked it. At the time, they were working on getting a hospital bed set up at his home so that way he could leave the hospital, which brings us to today. While discussing ways to keep in contact with Andy, Steve called me again today and said that his Dad told him that Andy was going downhill pretty fast. His kidneys are starting to fail. He gave me his Dads email address for those who want to write in. You can reach him at [email protected] I wouldnt expect an immediate response, but any well wishes would probably be appreciated. Please give this a share because I know Facebook can be problematic about some of the stuff people see. Please keep Andrew and the Dyer family in your thoughts and prayers.
