Tonight was the first of two performances at the Logan County Fair and Rodeo in Sterling. The threat of rain came early but stayed briefly and was on its way. What a pretty evening it turned out to be and the rodeo action was top notch. In the bareback riding it was the college cowboy Devan Reilly from Sheridan that took top honors tonight with a 75 point ride on R33 High Plains Drifter. Mickey Downare is currently second and hoping to add enough points to his Circle The Wagons Tour standings to move ahead of Craig Wisehart. In the saddle bronc riding there were only two qualified rides and Lyle Welling managed only 65 points on R31 Delilah but it was enough to take the top spot. Drew Antone from Wyoming made the only qualified ride in the bull riding and pocketed the $450 day money. In the tiedown roping it was L.D. Meier with a 10.1 leading the pack. David Hinman, just a tick behind the leader was 10.2. The steer wrestling was a little rapid tonight and Brady Hageman, the McCook, Nebraska man took the lead with a 4 flat run. Casey Downs was 4.4 and Richard Coats a close third with 4.6. In the team roping it was the last team of the performance, Ty Blasingame and partner J W Borrego taking the victory lap with a nice 6.4 time. A pair of 6.7 times posted by Mike Fuller and Cameron Irwin along with Caleb Bullock and Shayde Etbauer (Robert’s youngest son). In the barrel race it was the Pueblo cowgirl, fresh of her Yuma win, Kelly Yates, taking the lead with a 17.28 followed by Romany Gordon’s 17.41 and the former Miss Rodeo Wyoming, Amy Jo Farella with a 17.64. Three go-rounds of steer roping in the morning and another performance tomorrow night. Until then…. HAPPY TRAILS! Rodeo Rose
