Tonights View of the Sun It is a clear, starry night here near Tucson so I thought it would be the perfect time to show a view of the Sun with these images taken only minutes ago. NASAs Solar Dynamics Observatory took these images of our nearest star in ultraviolet light, except for the orange view is closer to what the human eye would see. The images were taken only a few minutes apart. Notice how the active regions are generally associated with the small dark spots on the visible light view. For scale, the Earth would fit inside one of those larger sunspots.
