Tonights pretty damn lifeless superhero movie on Netflix Disk: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2. Some entertaining moments, but the movie had the feel of something plotted by committee, and the middle of the film is a slog clumsily moving the characters into the desired positions. And, as with certain other films of its ilk, the various villains -- three of them -- appear shoe-horned into a single storyline where all they really accomplish is pulling attention from one another. (THE DARK KNIGHT proved that it was possible to make a movie like this with more than one villain, but their stories were more integrated; here, it is sometimes impossible to believe that the movie even knows what its about, and the story is a mess, to the point where Peter Parker has to help Gwen Stacy escape Oscorp goons and their pursuit of this girl WHOSE NAME THEY KNOW is simply never mentioned again, nor a matter of concern for anybody.) My villain Gustav Fiers, the Gentleman, shows up for about one minute, and is in the credits, and this made me mumble a bit, but this was not a factor in my negative reaction to the film. Really, if I took anything from it, it is that I would like to see Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone in a movie where neither one of them had to swing from a web-line and stop a flying police car from crushing somebody.
