Tonight’s oldie comes from a new wave band that formed in Montreal in 1977. Men Without Hats, so named because of the group’s refusal to wear hats during the cold Canadian winters, enjoyed brief commercial success in the mid-80’s. Initially comprised of the three Doroschuk brothers and their good friend, no fewer than 25 other musicians have played in the band over the years. Lead singer Ivan Doroschuk is the only founding member still performing today. This group’s 1983 hit, “The Safety Dance”, reached #3 in the U.S., #6 in the U.K. and #11 in Canada.
