Too many of us as Bass Guitar teachers have spent way too much - TopicsExpress

Too many of us as Bass Guitar teachers have spent way too much time teaching-pumping students with learning scales, modes, tricks, and music theory. Our students didnt come to us for that reason! Theyve come to learn songs! Playing songs is more enjoyable than playing scales… And that enjoyment factor promotes memory retention. So, it is far better to teach our students how to play very simple songs. Then when they are ready, progress to more intermediate songs---at their pace. Certain aspects of scales, music symbols, and the other facets of music can be introduced gradually when the time is right. An example, for starters, your students could begin learning to play something very simple on bass such as Sonny & Chers hit, Baby Dont Go. The bass line is simple, repetitive, and fun to practice playing along with the recording. Yes, it is old school but it gets students excited that they are playing the real bass licks and accomplishing what they came to you for! https://youtube/watch?v=EY7mnXM95Co
