Too many people call themselves promoters in Hollywood, when really they are club booking people. They are not even talent buyers because talent buyers pay bands. Guess what, if you need to fill dates at a club and are looking for a band to promote the show and do all the work for you, youre not looking for just a band, you are looking for a promoter who happens to play in a band. You however calling yourself a promoter are really just desperate to have the work done for you and should really be calling yourself a booking agent. There is a place for everyone in this shit business we call the music business. Why must you try and glorify what you do calling yourselves, promoters so you can lure talent into your clutches only to then ask the talent to do the work for you? Just be straight up! Say, hi there band, I have a night at blah blah shit hole Id like you to perform at? I dont promote shows but the room is there if youd like to use it. Instead hollywood small bean promoters mainly on the strip, imply that they have their shit together and know how to organize shows and popularize them, but really they are looking for bands that are really self promoters that will do the work for them. Not only that but they want a guarantee that these bands will do the work for them by asking the band to buy all the tickets to their own show and to sell them to fans and friends directly. Lame. Do your friggn job promoters and at least be honest about what you do and stop glorifying your lame as gig. You book lame as clubs that no one goes to or hangs out at since 1980. Thats the real story. Good bye Sunset strip. Its about time. Now maybe LA can have a real music scene again.
