Too often, workers are confronted with the choice of whether to remain in their job or leave to stay home to take care of a newborn or sick loved one. That isnt a choice anyone should ever have to make. Thats why I introduced the FAMILY Act, to implement a national Paid Family & Medical Leave program for every worker, full time or part time. This program would be fully funded by minimal contributions from both employer and employee, so it would not add one cent to the deficit. While some states are leading the way on paid leave programs, its shameful that the U.S. is the only high-income nation in the world not to guarantee some paid leave to its workers. The fact is, businesses support paid leave -- a new poll shows that 60% of small businesses right here in NY are in favor of such a program.
