Took Jason to see Transformers: Age of Extinction. Really eye-rollingly bad, Michael Bay lampooning a Michael Bay movie. All the ultra-violence (thinly disguised as robot-on-robot action), objectification, gob-smacking racism (a yellow faced Samurai robot speaking in nonsense aphorisms? A jive-talking thick-lipped robot in a cage, later talking about how hes free at last? Really?) plot mechanics barely thick enough to move you from one set-piece to the other. But it pulled off an amazing miracle: it made me miss Shia Labeouf. To my everlasting shame, I rather enjoyed it. God, whats wrong with me? I give it a ....oh, the hell with it. If youre going to see it, I cant stop you. And if you arent, damned if Ill spend my cultural capital swelling Bays money-sack another micrometer.
