Top 25 Metal Albums of 2014: #6 - Iced Earth - Plagues of Babylon As a longtime Iced Earth fan, its really nice to see the band finding themselves again with Stu Block. Lot of really epic yet aggressive stuff to be found on this album and the band is definitely back in the style that made them the name in US power/thrash. A dark, flowing, heavy, epic masterpiece about Cthulhu? Sold. But the album certainly doesnt stop there with other addictive choruses and great build ups on Plagues of Babylon and The Culling as well as one really interesting southern rock-ish track Peacemaker which, somewhat surprisingly, really works. This album just has the songwriting and sound to remind me why I love Iced Earth.
