Top 40 Albums of My Life #1-BIG COUNTRY-THE BUFFALO SKINNERS-1993 Most Big Country material featured songs of hope, life, love, nationality, or all four. The Buffalo Skinners, on the other hand, is made up mostly of Big Countrys darkest work. The death, not necessarily of just the American Dream, but of the dreams of the common people in general. To live-love-have lost is covered on Buffalo Skinners. Not a concept album on the surface, but if you look hard, you can find one. I had been a fan of the band since they came out in 1983, always loving their sound, but wondering what it would be like if they did a hard-edged album, For their 10th anniversary, I got my wish with this album and by hook/crook, BC became my favorite band. The songs spoke to me, about what I wanted out of life. The things I have. The things I couldnt have. Through it all, the album made me question my sense as a human being and where I stand. Not really in terms of politics OR nationalism, but being able to see it as the average Joe the everyday world turns for, even if that self-same world often gives the average Joe less than a share of the breaks. Lyrically, this album is closest to my heart with regard to my feelings on everything. Top notch-performances! Unfortunately, BC drummer Mark Brzezicki was in a state of flux with the band and toured with them for the album, but didnt play drums on the studio sessions. I do think this has the second best drum sound Ive heard on an album, next to KISS Creatures Of The Night, with legendary Simon Phillips sitting in for Mark. I saw Big Country on this tour in St. Louis, MO., even got to shake Stuart Adamasons hand, a moment that will stay with me forever. Buffalo Skinners is THE album of my lifetime! youtube/watch?v=ZUmn1-eLAJo&list=PL80A67CA37483A263
