The Government has removed the restriction on scheduled operation by foreign airlines of the world’s largest civilian aircraft, the Airbus A-380, in India. As per an official statement from the Ministry of Civil Aviation states that flights of A-380 to India will be allowed in 4 airports — Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore, which have the required infrastructure for A-380 operations. Singapore Airline, Emirates and Lufthansa are interested in operating A-380 aircraft in India on various international routes. 2. Karl Slym, the managing director of Tata Motors passed away yesterday after falling from 22nd floor of the Shangri-La Hotel to the fourth floor in Bangkok. He was in Bangkok to attend a board meeting of the Tata Motors Thailand Limited. He started his career by serving at Toyota in UK. He joined Tata Motors as MD in October 2012 and before joining Tata group, he served as the executive vice-president of SGMW Motors, China, which is a joint venture of General Motors. Ravi Kant, the former MD of Tata Motors and current non-executive director and vice-chairman of the company, may take temporary charge of Tata Motors 3. India’s ace shuttler Saina Nehwal won the Women’s Singles title at Syed Modi India Grand Prix Gold Badminton Championship after defeating PV Sindhu in the straight sets 21-14, 21-17 in Lucknow yesterday. With this she snapped her 15 months title drought. 4. Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni became the first captain to be played in four tied One Day International matches when India tied third ODI match against New Zealand on 25th January. The last three tied matches Dhoni has played are ICC World Cup 2011 match in Bangalore against England, ODI match played on 11 September 2011 at Lords against England and ODI match played in February 2012 at Adelaide against Sri Lanka. 5. NTPC Tied up Foreign Currency Loan. Loan amount is for $ 430 million which is equal to Rs.2650 crores. This loan will be used for Auraiya and Kudgi Projects. JBIC has granted two separate loans. JBIC (Japan Bank for International Co-operation) is the Japanese Government Policy based financial institution. For the first stage of 2400 MW Kudgi Super Thermal Power Project Stage I, public sector Power producer signed a term loan of $ 350 million with JBIC to finance the supplies and services from Japan as well as India. This project is located in Karnataka. 6. ONGC Signs MoU with Japan’s Mitsui & Co Ltd. MoU has signed to have a co-operation in exploration and production for conventional and unconventional petroleum and natural gas opportunities in India and third countries. 7. MSME (Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) and National Innovation Council announced creation of IIIF (India Inclusive Innovation Fund). This was approved by Union cabinet. It helps to solve the problems of citizens at the base of the economic Pyramid in India. (The fund, launched by Sam Pitroda, head of the NInC, is an autonomous Rs. 500-crore fund, with the Union Government contributing 20%. The balance will come from public sector banks, financial institutions, insurance companies, multilateral/bilateral development agencies, Indian & global corporates) 8. First ever Naval War games in the Mediterranean Sea between Russia and China from 1st February 2014. To enhance the inter operatability of Russia and Chinese combat Ship for joint operation in the eastern Mediterranean is the main purpose of the naval war games. In the joint naval drill involves Chinese frigate Yancheng and Russia’s heavy nuclear missile crusiser Peter the Great. 9. PAN Allotment Process will Change from 3rd February 2014. To have the PAN number candidates need to submit Date of Birth, Proof of Address and Proof of Identity documents. Original documents also need to submit at PAN facilitation centres. All the original documents will be checked for verification and will given back. 10. Tamilnadu has sanctioned Rs.854 crores for Water Supply and Sewage Projects. These projects are for small towns and cities. Projects under Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium towns Comprise Rs.441.46 crores. These projects is for providing sewerage systems in 6 towns namely Chidambaram, Tirupattur, Arakkonam, Mettur, Sattur, Periyakulam. Rs.412.50 crores is planned for drinking water supply projects. These projects are planned in Tindivanam, Thiruvettipuram, Periyakulam, Arni. 11. CSSS ( The Centre for Study of Society and Secularism ) was chosen for the National Communal Harmony Award 2013 in the organisations category. The award was announced on 25 January 2014 by the National Foundation for Communal Harmony. 12.The North-African country Tunisia, where people overthrew their dictator in 2011 in a popular uprising that inspired the so-called Arab Spring across the region, approved the country’s landmark democratic constitution on 26 January 2014.
