Top Jaish Commander martyred in Kupwara encounter Militancy wiped out in North: Army ‘Qari was a planner’ IGP => Army Tuesday said that it gunned down a top Jaish commander in Kurhama near Garewad village of Lolab in Fronter district Kupwara. Giving details of the operation, General Commanding Officer, Kilo Force, Sarath Chand told CNS that last night we had inputs that a top Jaih-e-Mohammad commander was hiding in Kurhama village of Loalb. “The ultra was identified as Qari Yasir from Swat Valley of Pakistan. We cordoned off the house and directed all the inhabitants to shift to safer places,” he said adding that the ultra was hiding in a cow-shed under the logs. “As we moved closer to the house, the ultra fired upon the Army and in retaliation we gunned him down. So far we are given to understand that he is a very important person and what we hear from our local sources is that the martyred ultra is Qari Yasir,” he said adding if it is so then it is a major setback to ultras and great success for security forces. A press conference was organized by Army at 8 Sector Headquarters of Lolab where 15 Corpus Commander Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh and Inspector General of Police Kashmir Division Abdul Gani Mir briefed the media. Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh said that Qari Yasir was a Divisional Commander of Jaish who was actively involved in arranging infiltration, guiding people, training them here, moving them to Sopore and deploying them elsewhere in Valley. “Qari Yasir was active from last nine years. It is a major setback for the ultras in Lolab Valley,” he said adding that Army is grateful to police and local residents of Lolab for their cooperation. The joint operation was conducted by 18 and 47 RR, SOG Kupwara and Sogam. IGP Kashmir Abdul Gani Mir said that Qari Yasir took control of the Lolab soon after the death dreaded ultra Sajad Afghani. “This ultra was a ‘planner’. He was instrumental in every militancy attack that occurred in North Kashmir. He planned things to show the presence of militants in Valley. It is a great setback for the ultras,” Mir said. Yasir, a resident of Nooristan in Swat valley of Pakistan, was active in the Valley since 2005 and took over as the Chief Commander of the outfit after the killing of Sajad Afghani, police sources said.
