Top O The Afternoon! Sorry for my late greetings this fine Saturday afternoon, technical difficulties beyond my control under hazy warm skies. We dodged the bullet for rain yesterday with a chance tomorrow. As promised yesterday I will post some ideas for us Staycationers around town and neighboring suburbs. You cannot go wrong with as mentioned yesterday a County Fair and today and tomorrow are the last day of DuPages fair at their fairgrounds in Wheaton and if you tire of the fair or wish to stop there first, please take into consideration a visit to Cantigny Park off of Route 12 in Wheaton. There is the famous war museum dedicated to the Big Red 1 Air Cav and the different battles this unit fought in since their beginning. There are actual recreations of the foxholes of WWI and the newsreels of the battles and sounds going on all around. They cover every war with a film or a pictorial display about the Big Red Ones contribution to each war. There are large tanks and other military equipment outside the museum for the children to climb on and a great place for a selfie. There is the famous McCormick Mansion open for tours and the 19th. Century decor and furnishings are impeccably kept with the corner stones on either side of the mansion are from Ft. Sumpter where the first shots of the Civil War rang out and Lincolns tomb. McCormicks friend and confidant. Spy on the walls inside hand written letters in Lincolns hand to McCormick. See the tomb of McCormick and his first wife on the grounds as you make your way to their gardens which are in full bloom this time of year. In the city the Wicker Park Street Festival will be in full swing today and tomorrow at Milwaukee and Paulina...three stages of music for your entertainment, bands like the Reverend Horton Heat, the Owls, the Young Widows, Maritime and many more. Lots of childrens entertainment and street vendors will be on hand. Looking for some different entertainment? Why not take in a play? Why not a interactive one?Murder in the Mansion has limited reservations and can be reached at 773-267-6400...every Saturday. The movies is always a great choice and, And So It Goes with Diane Keaton and Michael Douglas has a three star review. Movies for rental or Netflix is always an option for the at home Staycationers. If anyone enjoys a picnic, in a few minutes we all live within driving distance of forest preserves or lakes. If you saw your last property tax bill, you are paying for these great back to nature retreats. Also take advantage of a local park. Just have a great weekend and stay safe. Please remember to be good to one another and especially to yourselves. Remember our friends special intentions as well as world peace in your prayers. (thank you) If anyone is celebrating a birthday or anniversary have a good one. God Bless
