Top Worst Films of 2014 (first without commentary and then with). 1. Leprechaun: Origins 2. Tusk 3. Left Behind (2014 reboot) 4. I, Frankenstein 5. Transcendence 6. Revenge of the Green Dragons 7. The Giver 8. Vampire Academy 9. TIE: The Amazing Spider-Man 2/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 10. Robocop Honorable mention goes to Sin City: A Dame to Kill, the most disappointing film for me this year, with equal parts good and meh mixed together. And what films did you find the worst of 2014? The Why: 1. Leprechaun: Origins (the remake): (as bland and uninspired as they come and nothing the hell to do with the movie it supposedly is a remake of). 2. Tusk (No fun to be had, even as it feels so desperate to be fun, and I just kept shaking my head. I hate to say it, but what the hell, Haley Joel Osment? I know you were a strange looking kid, but not in a bad way. Its like they took the face and then implanted it on a big, awkward shaped balloon. I can see why you kind of disappeared from film. And Depp, ugh. I honestly was hoping for better from Kevin Smith,). 3. Left Behind (the remake): (This is what happens when you take what amounted to 10-15 minutes of the first attempted adaptation and streeeeetttccchhh it over a really boring movie, removing any of the potentially fun elements, no matter how cheesy they may have come off. At least, it would have been something. This movie is all kinds of incompetent, but you can be incompetent and still be really entertaining, as a couple of the other entries on this list show.). 4. I, Frankenstein (He, he.... oooohhh Aaron, sorry, man. At least you completely rocked Two-Face... but here, you just grumble a lot and then there is a lot of CGI with werewolves and angels fighting and... yeah... if only any of it was done with any amount of actual skill, this could have at least been fun to watch.) 5. Transcendence (Oh, how sooo wrong you got it. A lot of wasted talent phoning in, horribly mismanaged plot, etc, etc, etc). 6. Revenge of the Green Dragons (Disappointing effort from the director of Infernal Affairs.). 7. The Giver (Really safe movie that manages not to accomplish anything remotely exciting). 8. Vampire Academy (It was fun, cheesy bad in parts... but ooooh so very bad.) 9. TIE: The Amazing Spider-Man 2/New TMNT Spiderman: Yeah, lets remake Batman Forever with the main villain having even less character development or actual motivation for anything. Then lets throw in a soooo whiny Harry Osborn, cheesy cartoony one off villain [rhino], muddled romance. The real amazing thing is that this film manages to do just about everything the first film failed at doing, but get wrong everything the first film got right, and the result is sooo much poorer for it. It wasnt a complete waste, but yeah, it was pretty bad.) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles : Is it bad? Yes... but it has some competent elements involved, despite really bad acting from Megan Fox and a plot that seems ripped from Amazing Spiderman 1, and some good and bad moments involving the turtles, plus a killer opening title sequence, and the past segment was pretty cool. Shredder may have been very cartoony, but manages to be badass at the same time. If only theyd actually bothered to develop him as a character. And just No, big fat NO to this rendition of Splinter, easily the worst I think Ive seen in all the incarnations. Unlike Amazing Spiderman 2, at least the new TMNT movie seemed to be made by people who actually wanted to make a good TMNT, however incompetent the result... FINAL OUTCOME: I went back and forth about which of these two films was worse, even going so far as rewatching both... and I just couldnt do it, so here they are, tied) 10. RoboCop (the remake): (So yes, Robocop, but I know there are far worst films of 2014 that I just havent seen... as Robocop had some decent elements in it and was mediocre, if anything, but I cant recall anything else of 2014 that would oust Robocop from this slot. ) Final Thoughts: Not one, not two, but three remakes made the worst list for me this year, in addition to 1 reboot and 1 sequel to a rebooted franchise, as well as 2 book adaptations (well, 3, but I already counted Left Behind as a remake). As bad as Tusk was, at least it tried to do something different. Same with the Frankenstein movie. On the counter list, the best, we had 2 sequels and 2 book adaptations, and technically, Big Hero Six and Guardians of the Galaxy are also adaptation as well, being based on a comicbooks. I think it has been such a great year for science fiction/fantasy/comicbook films. Ive been so happy with my overall viewing experience this year and I cant wait for what next year brings (including Star Wars and Jurassic World and Mad Max and Terminator and Avengers! 2015 has the potential to be just as amazing, if not more so, than 2014. We shall see!)
