Top seeds knocked out TUESDAY AUGUST 20, 2013; NATIONAL TENNIS CENTRE, ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES – This morning on Court 4, Girls fourth seed Mia Smith of Great Britain became the first leading player to be knocked out of the 2013 National Lotteries Authority-sponsored SVG ITF Junior Tennis Tournament. She was beaten by Ryan Peus of the USA 6-2 6-3, in a game many expected her to win. In other games, Saint Lucia’s lone entrant Julia d’Auvergne lost to the number six seed Melena Lopez of Barbados 6-2 6-1 in Girls 18s singles, while the Boys number seven seed Saami Kirberg of the USA defeated Joshau Abraham of Trinidad and Tobago 6-3 6-4. Boys number 4 seed was heat by heat exhaustion and could not continue, handing John Jorgeson of the USA a 6-7 (8) 6-4 4-1 retired victory. Danielle Devenish and Makalah Goodridge both of Trinidad and Tobago had one of the easiest and quickest Girls 18s doubles matches when one of the Lyttle twin had to withdraw due to cramps. In other 18’s singles matches, Girls third seed Breana Stampli of Trinidad and Tobago defeated Ilana Blackwood of Jamaica 6-0 6-0, while the number seven seed Kyllie Mckenzie of the USA defeated D’Jeri Raymond of Antigua 6-2 6-2. Later in the day in Boys’ 18’s Singles matches, Gui Gomes of the USA sent the number three seed Arthur Stefani of Brazil packing, courtesy a 6-2 6-2 defeat. The number eight seed Ty Abraham of Trinidad and Tobago was beaten 6-3 7-5 by Myles Schalet of the USA, making it three top seeds knocked out of this year’s National Lotteries Authority-sponsored SVG ITF Junior Tennis Tournament. At the Grassroots Courts in Girls’ Under-14 matches, Afruica Gentle of Guyana defeated Candace Cook of Trinidad and Tobago 3-6 2-6 6-3, and Armalia Benn of St. Vincent and the Grenadines defeated Anya King of Trinidad and Tobago 6-2 6-2. In Boys Under-14 matches played at the Grassroots Courts, Ukpioronfo Ikolo of Grenada defeated Jean Philippe Murray of Saint Lucia 3-6 6-2 6-3, and Cordell Williams jr of Antigua defeated Joshua Arnold of Trinidad and Tobago 6-1 6-0. On Stadium Court at the National Tennis Centre in Boys Under-14 Singles, Justin Marcano of Antigua defeated Keenan Persuad of Guyana 4-0 5-3, Jordan Beaton of Guyana defeated Miguel Francis of St. Vincent and the Grenadines 4-0 4-0, while later in the morning, Shania Williams of St. Vincent and the Grenadies defeated Kalyca Fraser of Guyana 4-0 4-1.
