Topic of Discussion; Parents with Children & Disabilities I would like to start with stating I am not a professional. I just want to Wright what I feel and read your opinions based on the topic of discussion which in this case would be Parents Children & disabilities. I have done some research and I do understand something’s but there are a few which I can surly say I have no understanding even as I continue to read and ask my questions. So on to the topic at hand. For a couple of years now I have seen and heard of so many children diagnose with so many different disorders which may or may not be giving that would be a decision a Doctor or Physiatrist will have make. However I also see that most parents do not inform their self adequately. The term childhood mental disorder means all mental disorders that can be diagnosed and begin in childhood (for example, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), behavior disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, Autism spectrum disorders, etc.). Mental disorders among children are described as serious changes in the ways children typically learn, behave, or handle their emotions. OK So I giving you a start as to what I m referring to. I can’t stress enough how important it is to a child when parents are completely involved see no one can help your child if the help don’t start by you be proactive read ask questions if you are uncomfortable with a diagnose ask for a second even third opinion there are no right or wrong questions when it comes to your children. You are your Childs advocate thro you your child will be heard. I often see parents just sit and except whatever Doctors diagnose simply because well there a doctor well Newsflash DOCTORS are often wrong they are as human as we are. Then we have parents that really just can’t handle their children so they just look for an easy way out my kid does this my kid does that and of course a doctor will evaluate and based on the behavior give a diagnoses. They will infect say your child has a disorder when in all reality your child may just be showing sings of neglect or just need Attention parents are often doing this and that ends up creating a deeper issue in the long run . (Sorry went a little off topic) So let’s say your child does have a disorder and now we are talking (meds) what do you do? WE all now that “meds” can be very harmful and then there are side effects to worry about. There are fast acting as well as time released “meds” which one is the right one? I will tell you (None) why well it is My Opinion that not even Doctors are certain as to which medication are the proper ones its base on what the” meds” are used for that means you will have no idea how your child will react to the meds .know I’m not saying they won’t work because in most cases they do and you’ll see little to no side effects which is why I say RESERCH Everything! I will leave you with a web page that talks more about disorders however if anyone knows of a web page that explains why some parents are neglectful or why they simply can’t except that there child has a disorder please let me know I would love to continue to inform my self . cdc.gov/Features/ChildrensMentalHealth/
