Nautilus CARES – but only about spreading lies and misleading the public Nautilus’ latest newspaper advert Nautilus CARES is a public relations campaign by prospective experimental seabed mining company Nautilus Minerals. The program is meant to convince the public and politicians that the proposed open-cut strip mining operations on the seafloor will have a minimal environmental impact. But Nautilus CARES is based on lies and misinformation. The favourite line from Nautilus is that its seabed mining operation will be an “enclosed system” in which mined rock and dust will not be free to spread through the ocean disturbing fish stocks and other marine life. BULLSHIT Nautilus! Look at the photos below….What Nautilus is proposing is an open-cut strip mining operation on the seafloor. There will be nothing “enclosed” about it. The open cut strip mining operation on the seafloor Instead, three giant mining vehicles, the largest weighing an enormous 310 tons will be bulldozing their way across the sea floor. Two of these megaliths will be cutting machines – the auxiliary cutter and bulk cutter. They will chew their way through hydrothermal events which are rich eco-systems teaming with life – destroying every living creature and creating massive amounts of crushed rock and dust in a completely OPEN and UNENCLOSED mining operation. There is nothing “enclosed” about the havoc these vehicles will create on the seafloor…The bulk cutter at work on the sea floor – this is NOT an ‘enclosed system’ and see how Nautilus has created a moon-scape look – where are the hydrothermal vents and teaming marine life?
