Totally preventable and unnecessary spraying: "Bumble bee memorial. After nearly 50,000 bumble bees died in a Target parking lot, 18 different pesticides were temporarily banned by the Oregon Department of Agriculture. The pesticide was meant for aphids on the parking lot linden trees, but was present in the nectar and pollen as well, killing the bees. Bumble bees usually nest underground, have a queen with worker daughters who visit many flowers and make honey, but only the mated queen will overwinter. They are important pollinators of wildflowers and agricultural crops such as tomato, eggplant, cranberries, and blueberries. For some people bumble bees are are a symbol of community.
