Totally unrelated to anything whatsoever rant coming! o.O Right, some of you know Ive been turning my brain to mush for a few years now working on my familys, and other folks, genealogies and I have come to the conclusion that there needs to be a law. If you are tracing your family tree via the most popular online genealogy website you MUST do SOME actual research and not just automatically link every single questionable family tree or historical fact that wiggles a leaf at you! Aaaargh! Heres a few tips if youre doing this ... first, if the person youre looking at was born in 1700, I absolutely guarantee you that said persons parents were NOT born in 1900!!! Second tip, OMG, go back to high school history class, PLEASE! If your ancestor was born in America prior to 11 April 1783, they were not born in the United States of America! Not to mention, just for example, your ancestor was not born in the great state of Ohio prior to February of 1803. Why, you may ask? Because it was not a state; it, along with other then-border areas past the Pennsylvania border were part of the early Northwest Territories! And, one last vent ... dates. Folks, if you manage to trace your ancestors all the way back beyond the 11th century, the year is NOT properly written with a zero at the beginning of it! The year would be 900, not 0900; with that little ol zero you just turned it into a time-stamp instead of a date. Bottom line is simple, in this day and age of the internet there really is no excuse for NOT doing some real research and getting all your facts straight. Okay, well, I now feel better! :D Yall get to listen to my meltdown of frustration because, well, my dogs barely spare me an interested glance when Im ranting out loud so yall win the sympathy lottery. ;) Luv ya! lol
