Tottenham come out bookies favourites by beating a host of clubs to the free transfer signing of CSKA Japanese attacker Keisuke Honda in January. Honda is available on a free transfer in January as his contract with current club CSKA will expire on 31 December. Reports in Russia suggest that Spurs have leapt to the head of the queue to sign Honda, despite the interest of Liverpool, Juventus, Monaco and AC Milan. Milan came very close to signing Honda in the summer, only for a £5m deal to fall through at the last minute, and although the 27-year-old is on record as saying he wants to join the Italian giants, it seems that Spurs are now in pole position.
